[01] MLTI 2011 IMAGE PASSWORDS
If you did not receive the MLTI 2011 MacBook image passwords at the Tech Info Day sessions, please call the Apple MLTI Project Office at 207-688-4501. You must be listed as the Tech Lead or Principal in the Asset Manager to obtain the passwords. If you chose to create localized passwords during the restore drive process, you will still need the default administrator password in the event that a device is returned to you from the depot with a newly imaged hard drive.
[02] MLTI 2011-12 IMAGE UPDATER 001
The MLTI Image Updater 001 has been released. The installer package is available from the 207 TC Collaboration & Resources area on StudyWiz. This package downloads the following updates from Apple:
-Safari 5.0.5
-iTunes 10.3.1
-Snow Leopard Font Update
-Security Update 2011-002
-Security Update 2011-003
When finished, it builds the “MLTI2011ImageUpdater001.pkg” installer package to the admin user’s desktop. Use the resulting package to apply those updates to your existing MLTI MacBooks.
Please see the associated Read Me for a list of requirements and detailed instructions. To see a step-by-step screencast of this process, click here
[03] MLTI 1to1 BACKUP UPDATE
This year's image ships with a new version of the MLTI 1to1 Backup application. There are some new features and a new interface. We encourage you to take a look at it, test, and view the online video tutorials through the help menu. Since the image shipped, some improvements have been added and we suggest you distribute this updated version to your users. The update is version 3.1.1 and is available in the 207 TC Collaboration and Resources section of Studywiz.
[04] SUMMER REDISTRIBUTION ETIQUETTE
Each summer, the Enrollment Pool moves a large number of MLTI devices to meet the demand for extra devices for schools with increasing enrollment. If you'll be taking extra devices to your local Enrollment Pool or picking devices up from your local Enrollment Pool this summer, please follow these guidelines:
Dropping Off MLTI Devices:
-Devices must be reset to the default MLTI passwords.
-Devices should be in good working condition.
-Devices should be delivered in sleeves.
-Devices should have charger, power cord, and duckhead in pouch in sleeve.
-Do not deliver chargers, power cords, and duckheads loose in a separate box.
-Transfer devices in Asset Manager to Enrollment Pool school.
-Contact the Tech Lead at the Enrollment Pool to arrange a time to drop off the devices.
-Be sure to show up at the arranged time or call to notify the tech if your plans change.
-Be considerate of the Enrollment Pool Tech, who is volunteering many hours this summer!
Picking up MLTI Devices:
-Contact the Tech at the Enrollment Pool to arrange a time to pick up the devices.
-Be sure to show up at the arranged time or call to notify the tech if your plans change.
-Be considerate of the Enrollment Pool Tech, who is volunteering many hours this summer!
-Accept transfer of devices in the asset manager from Enrollment Pool school after verifying it is in good working condition.
[05] SUMMER SERVICE FORM
You may process up to 25 repairs at once without calling the help desk by using the Summer Service Bulk Dispatch link in Depotworks. To access this link, please log into Depotworks and click on the "Summer Service Bulk Dispatch" link on the Dispatch page. Bulk dispatch is available now.
NOTE: If you need special repair assistance, including bulk top case repair, please submit your request via the "Having issues or want to send feedback?" link in the lower right corner of any DepotWorks screen.
[06] BULK TOP CASE REPAIR REMINDER
If you have 20 or more top case only repairs, please do not create dispatches in DepotWorks for these. Instead, submit your request for bulk top case repair by using the "Having issues or want to send feedback?" link in the lower right corner of any DepotWorks screen. We will then make custom arrangements to use 5-pack boxes and a bulk pickup with FedEx Freight. Arrangements are being made until July 29th and units are being repaired on a first come, first serve basis. So, don't delay!
[07] ASSET MANAGER SERVICE ADDRESS
There are now two address fields for each school listed in the Asset Manager. The two addresses are the Service Address and the Physical address. The Service Address is the address to which, and from which, all things MLTI will be picked up and delivered (devices, parts, image DVD's, etc). The physical address is the address of record to which the MacBooks are associated for physical inventory and contractual record keeping.
[08] ASSET MANAGER BULK DEVICE TRANSFERS
You can now transfer as many devices as you need to any MLTI school. The DOE no longer needs to approve inter-school transfers of devices. Devices can be transferred and received via the bulk device transfer process in the Asset Manager.
[09] MLTI WIRELESS NETWORK UPDATES
If your school is performing any network infrastructure changes (switch changes, IP scheme update, etc) or need a WPA2 key update, please use the procedure detailed on page 15 of the 2011 MLTI Manual for network support issues. A member of the local project team will get in touch to schedule a time to perform the necessary configuration updates.
[10] MLTI MINUTES - BACKUPS
Quick screen recordings to ease end-user backups. In an effort to make backing up as easy as possible, MLTI Minute has created short videos showing end-users how to backup their data. Each video is short and focused on a particular application. Over the summer MLTI Minutes will be posting video on restoring data as well. All videos are available here.
[11] SCRATCH
This year MLTI has included the popular application Scratch on the MLTI image. While hard to categorize, Scratch is a programming environment that makes it easy to create interactive stories, animations, games, music, and art. Using Scratch helps develop hard to reach skills such as logical problem solving and creative thinking. Look forward to lots of content and professional development around this extraordinary addition to the MLTI Image.
