Beware of Potential Facebook Scam!
The Maine Lottery released the following today:
The Maine State Lottery has become aware of a potential lottery scam taking place on Facebook. The Facebook page Dan Tim Poulin has been created and is notifying Facebook account holders that they have won a substantial lottery prize. This page appears to be named for former Maine Lottery Director Dan Gwadosky and current Deputy Director Tim Poulin. It is not affiliated with or authorized by the Maine State Lottery or Powerball as it would lead you to believe. If you are contacted by this account, please let the Maine State Lottery know before proceeding any further.
As a reminder, the Maine State Lottery and other US Lotteries will never require you to send money, provide credit card information or banking information to claim a prize. If someone claiming to be from a lottery office contacts you, you should ask yourself the following questions:
Did I purchase a ticket from that State lottery? (most scammers come from another state or country and will indicate that you have won a prize in another state or country. If you live in Maine, and they say you have won a prize in Illinois – have you been there and did you buy a ticket? Did I give the Lottery my phone number or address?
After any type of contact of this nature, AND before you do anything else, please contact our office at (207) 287-3721 or by email at MaineLottery@Maine.gov so that we can advise you on the whether it’s legitimate.
