The Maine State Library joins in congratulating Rick Speer, Director of the Lewiston Public Library, who has been honored as Maine's Outstanding Librarian of the Year.

The Maine Library Association (MLA) awarded its highest honor to Rick Speer at the joint workshop of the Maine Library Association and the Maine State Library District Consultants, on Friday, October 31, 2009. The award honors the career accomplishments to date of a working or retired librarian, from any type of library, who has demonstrated an outstanding record of services to both his/her library and to the library profession.

Speer will be honored further with a celebration of the award at Lewiston Public Library where his staff and library patrons can join in the fun!

For more information about Speer and photos, read the Lewiston Sun Journal's recent article.

Thanks to Andi Jackson-Darling of MLA for the criteria for the award.
