SPRINGVALE—Start 2013 off right by addressing those career-related new year’s resolutions. The York County CareerCenter in Springvale continues its workshop programs for job seekers and those considering training to upgrade their skills and increase their employability.

CareerCenters can assist businesses by offering workshops on location, at local businesses or other organizations at no cost. The following workshops and programs will be held at the CareerCenter in Springvale unless otherwise noted.

• Resume Workshop—Tuesday, Jan. 8, 9 a.m.–noon. Explore the basics of resume writing and learn how to promote the qualifications you have that directly match employer needs.
• Complimentary Computer Boot Camp, a three-part series—Friday, Jan. 11, 18 and 25, 9–11 a.m. This three-part series begins week one with Computer Basics, week two covers Internet and email basics and finishes up on week three with Microsoft Word Basics. Space is limited; please call to reserve a seat.
• York County Works: “Goal Setting”—Tuesday, Jan. 15, 9 – 11 a.m. Learn about the process of setting goals. Identify the “big picture,” create goals and establish new steps. • York County Networking Group: Brown Bag Networking, Friday, Jan. 11 and Jan. 25 from noon–2 p.m. Take your job search to the next level through the power of networking. Join your local York County Networking Group to meet other people, share strategies, tips and leads. Bring a lunch and bring a friend, all are welcome. No reservation required.
• Interview Workshop—Tuesday, Jan. 22, 9 a.m.–noon. Learn new interviewing techniques by role playing interviews. Registration required.
• GATEways to Employment—Monday, Jan. 28, 1– 4 p.m. Join us for the beginning installment of our “workshop trilogy.” Learn how assessments can identify abilities, interests and skills and discover the unadvertised job market. Other topics include Job Search Strategies, Resume and Cover Letter Tips and Interviewing. Registration required.
• Human Resource Panel Discussion - Tuesday, Jan. 29 from 9–11 a.m. Join us and three Human Resources Directors from local companies who will discuss the “ins-and-outs” of resume and job application reviews, including job interviews and appropriate follow-up techniques. Two different staffing agencies will be actively recruiting in January at the CareerCenter.

• Springborn Staffing—Wednesday, Jan. 9 and Jan. 23, from 8–11 a.m. A Springborn representative will be recruiting at the York County CareerCenter in Springvale. No reservation required.
• Adecco Staffing—Every Thursday in January, an Adecco representative will be recruiting at the York County CareerCenter in Springvale from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. Current openings are with Poland Springs, Corning Life Sciences and GE. No reservation required.

The York County CareerCenter will also feature several sessions led by these partner organizations in January:

• Essentials of College Planning Workshop- Christy Le with MEOC will be here on Monday, Jan. 14 from 10 a.m.–1 p.m. The Maine Educational Opportunity Center (MEOC) offers free workshops for adults 19 and older covering topics on College Awareness and Planning along with the Federal Financial Aid process. The instructor will assist participants in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). • Women Unlimited offers Non-Traditional Occupations consultations for those interested in exploring non-traditional occupations (NTO) for women who are considering a potentially better-paying job. Contact Sue LeClair, NTO specialist at (207) 215-6992.
• Goodwill Workforce Solutions administers federally funded employment and training programs through the Workforce Investment Act (WIA). Certain eligibility requirements apply. If you might benefit from this program, please call the Workforce Solutions Center in Biddeford at (207) 571-3301 to schedule a date for a training orientation.
• Maine Centers for Women, Work & Community offer no cost classes in Assertive Communication, Creating Your Future, Creating the Rest of Your Life, Credit Yourself, Entrepreneurial Training, Financing Your Future, Professional Development and Mature Worker Activities. CareerCenters, part of the Maine Department of Labor, offer a variety of services to help people find employment or upgrade skills.
