Springvale—The York County CareerCenter in Springvale continues its monthly workshop programs for job seekers and those considering training to upgrade their skills and increase their employability.
CareerCenters can assist businesses by offering workshops or sessions with service providers at on location at local businesses or other organizations at no cost. The following workshops and programs will be held at the CareerCenter in Springvale unless otherwise noted.
York County Networking Group: Brown Bag Networking Lunch—2nd and 4th Monday of each month, noon–2 p.m. Challenge yourself to expand your network by attending Brown Bag Networking Lunches. Be prepared to introduce yourself with your “30 Second Elevator Pitch” then share strategies and successes and connect with other members. No reservation required.
Resume Workshop—Tuesday, Sept. 4, 9 a.m.–noon. Explore the basics of resume writing and learn how to promote the qualifications you have that directly match what the employer needs.
Computer Basics: An Introduction to Using a Computer—Friday, Sept. 14, 9–11 a.m. Join staff from the CareerCenter in an interactive session. Space is limited, please call to reserve a seat.
Interview Workshop—Tuesday, Sept. 18, 9 a.m.–noon. Learn new interviewing techniques by role playing interviews. Registration required.
Internet Basics—Friday, Sept. 21, 9–11 a.m. Join staff from the CareerCenter in a “hands” on workshop. Space is limited, please reserve a seat in advance.
GATEways to Employment—Monday, Sept. 24, 9 a.m.–noon. Learn how assessments can identify abilities, interests and skills and discover the unadvertised job market. Other topics include: Job Search Strategies, Resume and Cover Letter Tips and Interviewing.
York County Works, Human Resource Panel Discussion—Tuesday, Sept. 25, 9–11 a.m. Join CareerCenter staff and three human resources directors from local companies to discuss the “ins-and-outs” of resume and job application reviews, including job interviews and appropriate follow-up techniques.
Basic Word—Friday, Sept. 28, 9–11 a.m. CareerCenter staff members will offer an introduction to Microsoft Word. Space is limited; please reserve a seat in advance.
The York County CareerCenter will also feature several sessions led by partner organizations in September.
Essentials of College Planning—Monday, Sept. 10, 10 a.m. The Maine Educational Opportunity Center (MEOC) will host a free workshop for adults 19 and older. To register or for more information, call 1-800-281-3703 or visit MEOC’s website, meoc.maine.edu .
York County Works, “Temping Your Way to New Employment or Career”—Tuesday, Sept. 11, 9–11 a.m. Considering registering with a staffing agency? Participate in a lively discussion and Q & A session. Learn about the benefits of temporary employment. Space will be limited.
Adecco Staffing—Every Thursday in September, an Adecco representative will be recruiting at the York County CareerCenter in Springvale from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. Current openings are with Poland Springs, Corning Life Sciences and GE. No reservation required.
Women Unlimited—Non-Traditional Occupations Specialist consultations for those interested in exploring non-traditional occupations (NTO) for women and who are considering a potentially better-paying job. Contact Sue LeClair, NTO specialist at (207) 215-6992.
Goodwill Workforce Solutions administers federally funded employment and training programs through the Workforce Investment Act (WIA). Certain eligibility requirements apply. If you think you might qualify or could benefit from this program please call the Workforce Solutions Center in Biddeford at 207-571-3301 to schedule a date for a training orientation.
Maine Centers for Women Work & Community offers no cost classes in Assertive Communication, Creating Your Future, Creating the Rest of Your Life, Credit Yourself, Entrepreneurial Training, Financing Your Future, Professional Development and Mature Worker Activities.
