Department of Corrections Money Deposit Service Available Online!
AUGUSTA, Maine – December 6, 2010 – The Department of Corrections launched a new Money Deposit Service on Monday, December 6, 2010. This new online service provides friends and family members with the ability to make online deposits to the trust and phone accounts of eligible adult prisoners and juvenile residents, with the convenience of a credit or debit card. Prior to this service, monies had to be mailed to the appropriate correctional facility (in the form of checks, money orders, etc) for manual processing and disbursement to the individuals.
The new service was developed in collaboration with InforME and information technology contractor Abilis NE. This will be a ‘Maine.gov’ service and, as such, will be available from the ‘Maine.gov’ homepage, as well as the Department of Corrections homepage. It will be available 24 hours a day at www.maine.gov/online/correctionsdeposit. A complete list of definitions and service rules can also be found on the service welcome page.
Users of the service will first need to register and create an account. Registration cost is free and needs to be done only once; thereafter, a user will be able to log in with a registered username and password to make deposits.
This is a fully integrated service in that the handling of funds is fully automated and requires no manual intervention. A $2.40 processing fee will be charged to the user’s credit card for each deposit transaction made using this online service.
It is anticipated that this service will be a great convenience to friends and family of prisoners/residents and, for State government, will relieve the burden of manual receipt and processing of deposits at each correctional facility.
The Department of Corrections is offering a special promotion to anyone who uses the service from December 6th through December 10th. During this time, if you make an online deposit through this service, you will get 15 minutes added to an individuals phone account at no charge!!
