Maine State Board of Nursing Renewal Service Takes Off

AUGUSTA, Maine - March 6, 2006- In just three short months since its initial launch in November 2005, the Maine State Board of Nursing online service has processed over 1,700 license renewals. This means that over 78% of licensed Maine nurses use the online service to renew their licenses. The Board of Nursing service is available at http://www.maine.gov/bon .

The goal of this user-friendly application is to provide a quick and easy way for nurses to renew their professional license online at their convenience. Based on the quantity of positive feedback that the service has received since its inception, the Board of Nursing is certainly meeting that goal. The 78% adoption rate is a testament to the website's efficiency and ease of use.

"We are extremely excited at the large number of nurses who have chosen to go online to complete their renewals," said Myra Broadway, Executive Director of the Maine State Board of Nursing. "Providing our licensees with this accessibility and convenience is very important to us and we are extremely pleased with such a high rate of use in only a few months."

Nurses who wish to use the system need to meet a simple set of criteria. They must have a license that has not lapsed or is inactive, the license cannot be under suspension, and the license holder must have a Maine license. Nurses who meet these criteria can renew their license, change the status of their license from active to inactive, or update their address. Payment with a Visa or MasterCard may be made through Maine.gov's secure payment processor.

The Maine State Board of Nursing Online Renewal Application was developed in partnership with InforME, the State of Maine's private sector and official Web portal provider. All online services and official State of Maine web pages can be accessed from http://www.maine.gov/.
