Bureau of Insurance Continues Hearings on Anthem’s Requested Rate Increase

Augusta, Maine -

The Maine Bureau of Insurance will hold a formal public hearing on Anthem’s individual rate request on Thursday, April 15, at 9:00 a.m. in Room 214 of the Cross State Office Building (Natural Resources Committee Room) in Augusta.

Public comment will be accepted at this hearing for consumers who were unable to attend previous comment sessions. Consumers unable to attend the proceedings, can listen online at www.maine.gov/legis/audio/naturalrescmte.html.

Written comments can be submitted for consideration by the Superintendent while the record is open. The record will remain open until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 16, 2010. Comments can be submitted by U.S. Postal mail:

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield filed a proposed rate adjustment for its HealthChoice and Lumenos products on January 4, 2010, to become effective July 1, 2010. Anthem indicates that these adjustments will produce an average increase of 22.9 percent, and 11,066 policyholders would be affected by the proposed rate revisions.
