Insurance Superintendent Mila Kofman has announced that the Bureau of Insurance will hold public comment sessions regarding rate filings for both MEGA Life and Health and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield products.
MEGA Life and Health (MEGA) filed a request for a rate revision on its small group plans on August 31, 2009, and on its individual health plans in December 4, 2009, to become effective April 1, 2010. For its small group policies, MEGA indicates that these adjustments will produce an average increase of 21 percent, with 861 policyholders affected by the proposed rate revisions. For its individual policies, MEGA indicates that these adjustments will produce an average increase of 12.5 percent, with 6,890 policyholders affected.
Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield filed a proposed rate adjustment for its HealthChoice and Lumenos products on January 4, 2010, to become effective July 1, 2010. Anthem indicates that these adjustments will produce an average increase of 22.9 percent, with 11,066 policyholders affected by the proposed rate revisions.
Public comment will be accepted for both companies’ proposed rate increases at the following dates, times and locations:

Staff members from the Bureau of Insurance will be available at the public hearings to assist consumers with any other insurance matters. General insurance materials will be available and staff will answer questions.
