Will work with the White House as Senate debates clean energy jobs bill
October 27, 2009
PORTLAND – State Rep. Jon Hinck, D-Portland, is joining a national working group of state leaders working with the White House to advance federal clean energy legislation in Congress. Hinck will travel to Washington, D.C., Oct. 28 and 29 to meet with other members of the Coalition of Legislators for Energy Action Now.
The group has been convening via conference calls since September, reviewing energy policy in the states and tackling how best to put the country on course for energy independence and a cleaner energy economy. Hinck is participating in the working group along with 40 other state legislators from across the nation.
“Energy independence, future security and a stable climate all lie in the balance of this national energy debate,” said Hinck. “I want Maine to continue to be at the leading edge of energy policy.”
Working with the White House, the group will help inform the debate surrounding the American Clean Energy and Security Act (HR 2454). Their efforts will focus on moving the country toward clean energy solutions that will create jobs and reduce America’s reliance on foreign oil.
