Rep. Miller appointed to national legislative committees

July 21, 2009

AUGUSTA – Rep. Lisa Miller, D-Somerville, will serve as co-chair of the Council of State Governments Health Policy Task Force.

Maine Speaker of the House Hannah Pingree, D-North Haven, recently appointed Miller to the task force, as well as two other national committees, based on her past experience serving on the Maine Legislature’s Health and Human Services Committee and her current service on the State Legislature’s Appropriations and Financial Affairs Committee.

“I am honored to be appointed co-chair of this diverse regional committee,” said Miller. “Our meetings are few but packed with useful information about various states’ efforts to control health care costs, manage large Medicaid budgets, reduce the impact of chronic diseases, improve child health, expand access to health insurance, and respond to public health emergencies.”

The task force provides a forum for state leaders to address the challenges presented by the changing social, economic and political environments. The task force's activities focus on tracking national conditions and emerging trends, identifying innovative and effective solutions, and transforming these solutions into viable policy positions and response projects.

In addition, Miller was appointed to the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) Committees on Health and Budgets and Revenue.
