AUGUSTA – Speaker of the House Hannah Pingree has appointed Rep. Cynthia Dill, D-Cape Elizabeth, to three National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) Committees. Dill will serve on the Committee on Communications, Financial Services and Interstate Commerce, the Committee on Law and Criminal Justice and the Committee on Redistricting and Elections.
“I am honored to be appointed to these committees and I am excited to collaborate with legislators from around the country on important issues that face the people of Maine,” said Dill.
NCSL is a bipartisan organization that serves legislators and staff in all 50 states. Its standing committees meet three times a year to allow legislators from different states to share expertise and benefit from other states’ experiences.
NCSL’s stated mission is “to improve the quality and effectiveness of state legislatures, promote policy innovation and communication among state legislatures, and to ensure state legislatures a strong, cohesive voice in the federal system.” There are 12 NCSL Committees, and committee members develop policy on state-federal issues to guide NCSL’s lobbying efforts in Washington, D.C.
“These national committees provide opportunities to exchange ideas on the most pressing state issues with legislators from varying backgrounds,” said Dill. “I am eager to share the best ideas that Maine has to offer and bring back effective ideas to Cape Elizabeth and the Maine Legislature.”
Dill, a second-term legislator, also serves on the Maine Legislature’s Judiciary Committee and was recently appointed chair of the Maine Broadband Strategy Council, which is charged with coordinating Maine’s effort to compete for federal broadband money.
