AUGUSTA — Led by Reps. Bruce MacDonald, D-Boothbay, and Thom Watson, D-Bath, southern midcoast state legislators recognized several area constituents at the State House on June 1 for their achievements.
MacDonald and Sen. Seth Goodall, D-Sagadahoc, sponsored a special legislative sentiment recognizing Georgetown resident Jim Peavey, who recently earned the Humanitarian Award presented by the Maine Chiefs of Police Association. Peavey was recognized for all his work within Sagadahoc County and beyond to reduce family violence, his work with Big Brothers/Big Sisters and other nonprofits. The sentiment read in part, “We extend our appreciation to Mr. Peavey for his commitment to the citizens of the State and congratulate him on his receiving this award.”
MacDonald was also the lead sponsor of the legislative sentiment recognizing local students who received the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award from the Topsham-Brunswick chapter of the DAR. Another Georgetown resident, Katherine Birdsall, a senior at Morse High school, is one the recipients. All of the Sagadahoc County legislative delegation, as well as the senators and representatives from the towns from Cumberland to Woolwich were co-sponsors of this sentiment recognizing the outstanding high school seniors who demonstrate the qualities of a good citizen, dependability, leadership, service and patriotism in their districts.
Finally, Watson, Goodall and Rep. Peter Kent, D-Woolwich, sponsored a sentiment recognizing the recent honor earned by Thomas J. Hoerth, Bath’s city arborist, who is the recipient of the 29th annual Mainsail Award from the Morse High School Community Liaison Council.
“As the people of Bath know, Tom has long provided tremendous service to the people of Bath and continues to do so,” said Watson. “It is fitting that his work has been recognized by the city of Bath and Morse High School by giving him the Mainsail Award.”
