Percy joins family and colleagues in memorializing ‘Maine musical treasure’
May 19, 2009
Havenstein was a mentor and close friend of Percy. For decades the two often performed together throughout Maine. Percy and over a dozen other senators and representatives sponsored a special legislative sentiment in Havenstein’s memory. The sentiment read in part, “She was a well-known figure on the jazz scene, playing with local as well as national celebrities. She served as an inspiration and mentor to many musicians, both young and old alike. Mrs. Havenstein will be deeply missed, not only by her family and her many friends, but also by the entertainment community of Maine which has been so enriched by her presence for decades.”
