Legislators will meet constituents after budget forum
April 29, 2009
BRUNSWICK – Brunswick-area legislators will hold their regular office hours on Saturday, May 2 from 12 to 2 p.m. at Kresge Auditorium on the Bowdoin College campus.
The regular monthly office hours will take place immediately following the special state budget forum organized by the local delegation that will take place from 10 a.m. to noon in the same location. Sen. Stan Gerzofsky has invited Sen. Bill Diamond, D-Cumberland, who is the Senate chair of the Appropriations Committee to discuss and answer questions about the state budget. There will be an over $1.3 billion budget shortfall which will be dealt with by cuts to state spending over the next biennium. For the first time in over 30 years the state budget will be smaller than the previous biennium. In fact, the budget for the next biennium will be smaller than the state budget passed four years ago for the 2006-2007 biennium.
The monthly office hours are open to constituents to voice their opinions and concerns and have an open dialogue with legislators from their districts. Reps. Alex Cornell du Houx, Peter Kent and Charlie Priest, each representing a part of Brunswick, and Sen.Gerzofsky, representing all of Brunswick, are expected to attend.
Office hours are scheduled to run through the legislative session on the first Saturday of each month.
