State Representatives Briggs and Hayes receive committee assignments

AUGUSTA – Rep. Sheryl Briggs (D-Mexico) has been appointed to serve on the Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Committee, and Rep. Terry Hayes (D-Buckfield) will serve on the State and Local Government Committee.

The Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Committee oversees state policy regarding the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, hunting, fishing, trapping, hunter safety, fish hatcheries, game wardens, guides, taxidermist licensing, ATVs, snowmobiles, white water rafting, and watercraft registration and boater safety.

The State and Local Government Committee oversees state policy regarding the Legislature, state contracts, state government organization, oversight of state officials, state employees and property, boards and commissions, capitol area planning, county and regional government, and municipal and local government.

Briggs is serving her fourth term and represents the towns of Canton, Carthage, Dixfield, Mexico, and Peru.

Hayes is a four-term representative for Buckfield, Hartford, Paris, and Sumner.

The representatives were selected to serve on the committee by Speaker of the House Mark Eves. The legislature has 16 joint standing committees, which will begin work in early January. A list of committee members can be found at 126th Legislature.
