State Representatives Welsh, Kruger and Dickerson receive legislative committee assignments

December 26, 2012

AUGUSTA – Rep. Joan Welsh, D-Rockport, has been appointed to serve as House chair, on the Environment and Natural Resources Committee. Rep. Chuck Kruger, D-Thomaston and Rep. Elizabeth Dickerson, D-Rockland, will both serve on the Marine Resources Committee. In addition, Rep. Kruger will serve as House chair on the Government Oversight Committee.

“I look forward to serving another term on the Marine Resources Committee,” said Kruger. “I’m crucially aware of the importance of the maritime industries to the midcoast. I’m most grateful for the confidence and trust of leadership to appoint me to serve as House chair of the Government Oversight Committee.”

The Marine Resources Committee focuses on policy relating to the Department of Marine Resources, commercial marine fisheries management, licensing and enforcement, processing and sale of marine fish and shellfish and aquaculture.

“I look forward to serving on a committee that directly handles issues critical to the area I represent,” said Dickerson. “People in my district have high expectations for the state to find common sense solutions to preserving our natural resources while responsibly developing traditional industries.”

The three local Representatives were selected to serve on the committees by the Speaker of the House Mark Eves. The legislature has 16 joint standing committees which will begin work in early January. A list of committee members can be found at 126th Legislature.
