Area representatives receive committee assignment

December 26, 2012

AUGUSTA –Area representatives Linda Sanborn, D-Gorham, and Andrew McLean, D-Gorham, have been appointed to legislative committees for the upcoming session.

Rep. Sanborn, a third term legislator, will be serving on the Appropriations and Financial Affairs Committee. The committee works on policy regarding General Fund appropriations and fiscal policy, federal funds allocations, special revenue and block grant allocations, bond issues, collective bargaining funding, financial evaluation of agencies of state government and the Maine Public Employees Retirement System.

“I am honored to be chosen to serve on the Appropriations Committee,” said Rep. Sanborn. “I look forward to finding reasonable solutions to our budget problems.”

Rep. McLean, a first term legislator, will serve on the Transportation Committee. The committee works on policy regarding the Department of Transportation, Maine Turnpike Authority, highway and bridge construction, aeronautics, waterways and railroads.

“I'm excited about my appointment to the Transportation Committee,” said Rep. McLean. “Our roads, bridges, rail lines and airports are the backbone of our economy. Moving goods to market efficiently and people safely from place to place is critical to growing Maine's economy. I look forward to working on ways to rebuild our roads and bridges, helping businesses find new ways to get their goods to market efficiently and ensuring that Mainers, and those who visit Maine can safely explore our great state.”

Rep. Sanborn and Rep. McLean were assigned to serve on their committees by the Speaker of the House Mark Eves. The legislature has 16 joint standing committees which will begin work in early January. A list of committee members can be found at 126th Legislature.
