AUGUSTA – Rep. Matthew Peterson, D-Rumford, has been appointed to serve on both the Health and Human Services Committee and the Government Oversight Committee in the upcoming legislative session.
The Health and Human Services Committee oversees state policy regarding Dirigo Health, MaineCare, Medicaid, mental health, tobacco sales, medical marijuana, homelessness and public assistance.
The Government Oversight Committee seeks to improve efficiency in all areas of state government.
“I am looking forward to continuing to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle in the Health and Human Services Committee,” said Peterson. “I am also thrilled to be appointed to the Government Oversight Committee to be in a direct position to make government work smarter.”
Peterson is a third-term legislator who has served on the Health and Human Services Committee in his previous two terms. He represents the towns of Andover, Byron, Roxbury, Rumford, Weld, Rangeley and Sandy River Plantations, and Madrid Township.
“I intend to pursue a strong, coordinated and content-rich policy agenda that I believe is a thoughtful response to the interests expressed by my constituents and all Maine citizens,” said Peterson. “Government can do better, and I look forward to promoting a legislative program to meet that goal.”
Peterson was selected to serve on the committee by Speaker of the House Mark Eves. The legislature has 16 joint standing committees, which will begin work in early January. A list of committee members can be found at 126th Legislature".
