BIDDEFORD – Speaker of the House Robert Nutting recently appointed members of the 125th Legislature to committees based on their interests and areas of expertise.

Rep. Megan Rochelo, D-Biddeford, is serving her first term and was appointed to the Judiciary Committee for the 125th Legislature. The committee focuses on policy work relating to the Judicial system and criminal and civil procedure.

“I am honored to have been appointed to serve on the Judiciary Committee,” said Rochelo. “I look forward to working with my distinguished colleagues from the House and Senate to ensure that Maine continues to be a state that values and protects everyone’s rights and freedoms.”

Rep. Alan Casavant, D-Biddeford, is serving his third term and was appointed to the State and Local Government Committee due to his prior experience serving on the Biddeford City Council for 18 years.

“I am pleased to have the opportunity to serve on this committee,” said Casavant. “I hope that the committee, as well as the legislature as a whole, can put aside political affiliations and find creative and constructive solutions for state and local issues.”

The State and Local Government Committee oversee issue related to state government organization, county and regional government, the Legislature, and municipal and local government.

Rep. Paulette Beaudoin, D-Biddeford, is beginning her third term in the House of Representatives and was re-appointed to the Insurance and Financial Services Committee.

Beaudoin has been a longtime advocate for senior citizens and during the 124th Legislature successfully worked to expand access to oral health care, improve the continuity of care for individuals with behavioral issues in long-term care, and require insurance companies to cover the cost of prosthetic devices.

“I am eager to begin working to help people through these hard economic times, especially those who are without insurance,” said Beaudoin.

The Insurance and Financial Services Committee oversees insurance regulation and policy, financial services, banking and health care reform.

The full legislature has 16 joint standing committees. A full list of committee members can be found at Joint Standing Committees of the 125th Legislature.
