Joseph Ponte is the Commissioner of the Maine Department of Corrections.
Ponte joins the Department with 41 years of correctional experience, 22 of which were with the Massachusetts Department of Corrections as Assistant Deputy Commissioner. For 8 years, Ponte was Warden and/or Director of large and small jails in Florida, New Jersey, Rhode Island and Tennessee and he had an additional 8 years with private corrections as a Warden and Cornell Corrections and recently with Corrections Corporation of America.
Ponte is married to his wife Maria who is presently a 6th grade science teacher.
