News Release for June 7, 2011
New Meadows Bridge in West Bath and Ramps on Merrymeeting Bay Bridge to close temporarily
Ramp C (Route 1 North to Route 196 West) of the Merrymeeting Bay Bridge will be closed to all traffic on Wednesday, June 8th at 5 A.M. in order for the contractor to complete work that was delayed due to the heavy rains earlier in the spring. It is expected that the ramp will reopen by 5 A.M. Thursday, June 9th. Motorists should plan to use Pleasant Street, turning left onto Maine Street/Route 24 during the 24-hour closure.
Ramp B (Route 196 East to Route 1 North) of the Merrymeeting Bay Bridge will be closed to all traffic on Thursday, June 9th at 7 PM. It is expected that the ramp will reopen by 10 A.M. Friday, June 10th. Motorists should plan to use Maine Street/Route 24 during the closure.
In addition, New Meadows Road Bridge over U.S. Route 1 in West Bath will be closed to traffic at 8 P.M. on Thursday, June 9th until 6 A.M. on Friday, June 10th and then again on Friday, June 10th at 8 P.M. until Saturday, June 11th at 6A.M. Traffic will be routed around the bridge along New Meadows Rd., Witch Spring Hill Rd. and Old Bath Rd. The detour route will be clearly marked with signs.
