Description of Training:

During this course, participants will reside on Burnt Island, off the coast of Maine, and learn to utilize nature journaling to help their students develop their skills of observation, inquiry, understanding, and appreciation of nature. The nature journaling process has recently captivated the interest of educators as a technique to integrate several disciplines such as science, math, writing, and art. Participants in this course will learn how to employ the media of nature journaling, including observational drawing and writing, pen and ink, colored pencils, watercolor painting, and photography while documenting several natural phenomenon on the island. A final project will be the development of a teaching unit that spans subject matter in at least two disciplines and utilizes nature journaling techniques to encourage students to observe, inquire, understand and appreciate a natural setting in their own community. You must contact Elaine Jones to verify that space is available before registering for this course.
