Sen. Mitchell, Gendron to Discuss Next Steps in Reorganization

Focus is Kennebec Valley area school systems

AUGUSTA – At the request of Sen. Elizabeth Mitchell, Education Commissioner Susan Gendron will hold a meeting Wednesday, September 5, 2007, to discuss next steps for school administrative reorganization in the Kennebec Valley area. The meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. in Jewett Hall at the University of Maine, Augusta.

All school board members, municipal officials, Reorganization Planning Committee members, and members of the public who are interested in the reorganization effort are encouraged to attend. Mitchell and Gendron will provide an update on where we are in the process of implementation, offer suggestions for moving forward, and answer questions about how to make the implementation work best for students and communities.

Those who are interested in reorganization are also encouraged to sign up on the Department of Education website for reorganization updates by email. These contain important updates on the process, explanations of aspects of the law, and notice of new materials and resources posted to the website. Go to http://www.maine.gov/education and click on the School Administrative Reorganization logo at the top of the page, then e-News Updates.
