Governor, education commissioner announce forums

Will present Local Schools, Regional Support Initiative and answer questions

AUGUSTA – Lewiston, North Berwick, Portland, and Bangor will be the first stops of a tour by Gov. John Baldacci and Education Commissioner Susan Gendron to bring the Local Schools Regional Support Initiative directly to the public.

The LSRS Initiative is Gov. Baldacci’s plan for streamlining central office administration and shifting resources to the classroom for academic excellence. There will be time for questions from the community.

Commissioner Gendron will participate in all four forums; Gov. Baldacci will address all but the Berwick forum. Additional forums will be scheduled and will be announced as details are finalized. The initial forums are scheduled as follows:

  • Wednesday, January 24, 7 p.m., Lewiston Middle School Auditorium
  • Thursday, January 25, 7 p.m., Noble High School, North Berwick
  • Friday, January 26, 7 p.m., Portland – Deering High School
  • Tuesday, January 30, 7 p.m., Bangor – United Technologies Center
