Maine Conservation Corps to Hold Partners Meeting
(January 6, 2009) HALLOWELL, Maine – The Maine Conservation Corps (MCC), under the Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands, will hold its next Partners Meeting at 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 15, at the Natural Resources Service Center Building, 6 Beech St., in the basement conference room at the Hallowell Annex.
This meeting is for any group or agency interested in learning more about MCC and the trail projects it accomplishes. Trails built by MCC provide access to Maine’s natural areas and provide recreation, fitness and exercise opportunities to the people of Maine.
“We hope to have as many new partners come as possible so we can get information to them about the great work we can do for their organizations,” Steven Gaffney, MCC field team manager, said.
The meeting will include the presentation of a PowerPoint slideshow. Attendees are encouraged to participate, and all questions are welcomed, Gaffney said.
Lunch will be provided. Following lunch, a review session will be held regarding the MCC project proposal forms, so potential partners will have all the information they need to apply for a MCC work team. Time also will be allowed at the end of the program to go over potential projects that participants may have questions about.
In 2008, the MCC completed almost $1 million in environmental and conservation projects around the state.
Anyone who wants to attend should contact Brenda Webber, recruitment assistant, as soon as possible. She can be reached at: 207-624-6085; (toll free in Maine) 800-245-5627; 207-287-3342/Fax; or email: corps.conservation@maine.gov
