AUGUSTA, Maine – A special day of family fun will take place later this month, with the 4th annual Family Fun Celebration at Swan Lake State Park in Swanville.

The popular event will feature all kinds of family entertainment, including games, music, unique raffles and special appearances by the Belfast Fire Department and everyone’s favorite, Smokey Bear.

“This event is made to be family friendly and fun for all ages,” Corie Dimmitt, park manager, said. “I and all of our staff here at the park are really looking forward to hosting this year’s Family Fun Day.”

The details of the event are:

  • 4th Annual Family Fun Day, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Sunday, July 24, Swan Lake State Park, Swanville. Refreshments available; Free with park admission.

Swan Lake State Park is a small, yet popular family park located on scenic Swan Lake. Last year, more than 15,000 people visited the park, located south of Bangor.

The park features a swimming area with lifeguard supervision, picnic sites with grills, and walking trails. Toilets and changing facilities also are available for use. For large gatherings, a private group shelter can be rented. The park also features a volleyball area and horseshoes pit and a handicapped accessible toilet.

This year’s celebration offers games and entertainment provided throughout the day, including a bean-bag toss, face painting, mini golf, animal-track mold making, balloon animals, bird house building, and boat decorating. Snacks, drinks and goodie bags also will be offered.

Family friendly musical entertainment will be provided by The University of Maine Machias Ukulele Band. Smokey Bear and the Shrine Circus clowns also will be making their appearance. The Belfast Fire Department will offer fire truck tours.

Special raffles will highlight the event, Dimmitt said. One raffle will be held specifically for adults 18 years and over. The adult raffle prize will be a free black bear hunt over bait and a coyote hunt with hounds with RAW Obsession Maine guide service. For children under 18, two wooden picnic tables will be the prizes.

Other raffle prizes include 1 pound of fudge from Perry’s Nut House; gift certificates for Young’s Lobster Pound, Old Mill Diner and the Flying Pig market and deli; free kayak and canoe rentals, and much more.
