Workshop - Changes in ADA Standards

The Maine Department of Labor is one of the sponsors of an upcoming workshop that aims to provide guidance on recent changes to the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The event is open to the public and will be held on Wednesday, February 29 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Central Maine Commerce Center. The cost for participating is $40 and preregistration is required.

Changes to the law include new specifications for employee areas, entrances, single user toilet rooms, recreation areas and more. The session will focus on what's new, what's been dropped, requirements when alterations are undertaken, when an elevator is required and the revised formatting.

Eric Dibner, State ADA Coordinator from the Maine Department of Labor, Bureau of Rehabilitation Services will join representatives from the Maine State Fire Marshall's Office, the Maine Human Rights Commission and the Maine Accessibility Coordinator Office to discuss their roles with plan review, implementation and enforcement. The cost for participating is $40 and preregistration is required.
