AUGUSTA—Late blight, a plant disease affecting potatoes and tomatoes during cool and wet weather, has been found in potatoes planted on Long Island, New York. This is a reminder to Maine growers and home gardeners to plant certified potato seed and healthy tomato seedlings, and regularly inspect plants for symptoms of late blight. For more information to help identify symptoms and prevent or manage the disease, please visit the Got Pests? website at: http://www.maine.gov/agriculture/pesticides/gotpests/diseases/late-blight.htm

If you observe any suspect symptoms, please contact your county Cooperative Extension office, listed at: http://extension.umaine.edu/
