Report: Poultry Processing Needs in Maine

Over the past several years, farmers in Maine and across New England have seen a sharp increase in demand for locally produced meat and a decline in availability of slaughter and meat processing services. Considering the size of the region’s consumer markets, this demand represents a significant economic opportunity for Maine’s farm families that are now, or would like to be, raising poultry.
