Secretary Gwadosky to Address Rumford Rotary Club
Presentation to highlight e-Government services available to Maine Citizens

Monday, April 9, 2001 at 12:30 p.m.
Mexico Congregational Church
43 Main Street, Mexico

Secretary of State Dan A. Gwadosky will speak to the Rumford Rotary Club on Monday, April 9, 2001 at the Mexico Congregational Church located on 43 Main Street in Millinocket.  Secretary Gwadosky’s topic will be Transitioning to e-Government.  His presentation will begin at approximately 12:30 p.m.

A recent survey shows that 56% of the adult U.S. population is now online and this group continues to grow at a phenomenal pace.  Government, like business, is scrambling to keep pace with technology in order to meet ever-increasing customer expectations while still maintaining traditional methods of service delivery.  The advent of the Internet offers a dramatic opportunity to transform how citizens interact with their government.

The State of Maine has developed an Internet portal to government services, known as InforME: the Information Resource of Maine, that continues to grow and develop at a rapid pace.  Secretary Gwadosky serves as the Chairman of the public board that guides InforME.

Through InforME state government is offering online vehicle re-registration, professional license renewals, hunting and fishing licenses and much more.  Secretary Gwadosky’s presentation on e-government will offer a provocative look into our global society and how it is changing citizen and business expectations of government services.  The presentation will also provide information on current and proposed e-government services in Maine.
