White Disability Parking Placards No Longer Valid
AUGUSTA--As of January 1, 2001, all white disability placards must be replaced with a new blue and white 4-year placard or a red and white temporary placard. This change, first implemented in 1996, was the result of Federal guidelines that require an expiration date for all disability placards. The white placards do not meet this guideline. Since 1996 individuals have been allowed to use the white placards while they applied for the 4-year or temporary placard. The white placards have not been issued since 1996.
Those individuals who currently have a white disability card should contact the Bureau of Motor Vehicles for a disability placard application. The Bureau of Motor Vehicles may be reached by mail at 29 State House Station, Augusta, ME 04333 or by phone at 624-9000 ext. 52149. The form is also available over the Internet at http://www.maine.gov/sos/bmv/forms/forms/disability.pdf
This does not apply to anyone
who currently holds a blue and white or red and white placard and it does
not apply to anyone with a disability license plate.
