e-Government Goes Corporate
Secretary Gwadosky Unveils New Interactive Corporate Services

No longer is it necessary to mail, fax or phone in a request for most corporate documents and information on file with the Secretary of State.  A new online service announced today by Secretary of State Dan A. Gwadosky will provide businesses and individuals all across Maine with 24 hour a day, 7 day a week access to information on business entities that file documents with his office, as well as access to copies of those documents.   Interactive Corporate Services, the Department of the Secretary of State’s most recent e-Government service, allows copies of imaged documents, such as annual reports and articles of incorporation, as well as copies of certificates of good standing, to be printed at home or the office.

“Through this new Internet service, customers will now have access to basic information about all business entities registered in Maine whether they are sitting in their office in Presque Isle or at a meeting in Boston,” stated Secretary Gwadosky.   “We are confident this online service will be convenient and easy to use whether you need this information once a year or once a day.”

The Secretary of State’s Office has over 55,000 active entities and trademarks on file and receives over 46,500 annual reports filed by business and nonprofit entities.

Interactive Corporate Services allows a user to search the documents on file with the State of Maine for all business and non-profit corporations, trademarks, limited partnerships, as well as limited liability partnerships and corporations.  Basic information regarding each of these entities is available at no cost.  This information includes legal name, entity type, status, date of incorporation or filing, assumed and former names, and clerk/registered agent.  This information may be accessed and printed at no cost from the user's computer.

For additional information, such as plain or certified copies of filings (annual reports, articles of incorporation, amendments, etc.) and certificates of good standing and legal existence, the usual statutory fees apply and a subscription to InforME, the Information Resource of Maine, is required to process the request online and bill the user’s account for the services.
