Secretary of State Dan A. Gwadosky to Honor
The Dunlap Agency for 100 Years of Incorporation

Secretary of State Dan A. Gwadosky will honor The Dunlap Agency for 100 years of incorporation on Thursday, August 9, 2001 at 12:00 p.m. at the company’s offices located at 31 Court Street in Auburn.  Secretary Gwadosky will make the presentation to Stephen F. Dunlap, President and CEO of the corporation, members of the Management Committee and Dunlap family and other invited guests.  The Dunlap Agency is a business corporation that was incorporated on December 25, 1901.  It also does business as The Dunlap Corporation.

Eighteen corporations are celebrating their centennial anniversary this year.  They include eight business corporations--Beta Theta Pi Co., Chilton Paint Company, Edward H. Best & Co., Hodgco, Inc., Lewiston Daily Sun, Oxford County Telephone and Telegraph Company, Psi Upsilon Chapter House Association, The Dunlap Agency--and ten non-profit corporations--Library Club of Lovell, Megunticook Golf Club, Northeast Harbor Fire Co., Inc., Silver Harvest Grange Association, The Aid Society of Otter Creek, Maine, The Maine Optometric Association, Waldo County General Hospital, Wilson Grange, No. 321 and Wilton Free Public Library Association.

“I enjoy this opportunity to recognize these Maine businesses and nonprofit organizations that have attained this milestone,” said Secretary Gwadosky.  “Many dedicated people have been involved in keeping these organizations and businesses active for 100 years.  It is a significant achievement, given that my Department has over 50,000 active corporations on file.”

Over 130 years ago, Charles F. Dunlap began an insurance business that would become The Dunlap Agency.  Five generations of the Dunlap family have consistently provided leadership to the company throughout its long history.  It is one of the largest independent insurance agencies in New England with a headquarters located in Auburn.  Dunlap provides all lines of coverage for commercial and personal risk, as well as employee benefit plans, financial services, risk management, loss control and self-insurance administration services.   Approximately 150 individuals are employed at the Auburn location.
