Secretary of State Charles E. Summers, Jr. Announces Public Private Partnership Between AAA Northern New England and the Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicles

Secretary of State Charles E. Summers, Jr. and AAA Northern New England to Launch Driver License Renewal Pilot in Waterville AAA Branch Office.

 

Residents in the Waterville area can look forward to improved availability of driver license renewal service options in 2012. The Secretary of State and AAA Northern New England have partnered to offer a pilot program that will allow for basic driver license renewal and replacement services at AAA’s Waterville branch office located at 13 Washington Street.  A ribbon cutting ceremony with AAA Northern New England President Eric Cyr and Secretary of State Charlie Summers is scheduled for Monday, May 21, 2012 at 10:30 at the Waterville AAA to launch this pilot program. The partnership is integral to the BMV’s goal to enhance availability of services in the Waterville area.


“I’m pleased to work with AAA Northern New England on this pilot program. It’s exciting to be part of a partnership where government and the private sector are working together to provide quality services to Maine’s licensed drivers in more locations with flexible hours of operation and without there being any additional cost to the consumer, business, or the State,” said Secretary Summers.


Upon success of the pilot program it is expected to offer services to all nine AAA offices across the state. This service will be available to both AAA members and the general public. AAA branch office business hours are Monday through Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm and Saturdays from 9am-1pm. 


“This is an excellent example of a public private partnership that enhances services to our members and the motorist of Maine”, said Eric Cyr, President of AAA Northern New England. “We are excited with the opportunity to partner with the Bureau of Motor Vehicles and expand the locations and hours of license renewal services in Maine.”


AAA has successfully provided motor vehicle services in California, and other New England states such as Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut for years.
