Secretary of State Charles E. Summers, Jr. To Speak At The 64th Annual American Legion Dirigo Boys State Program

AUGUSTA, MAINE – Secretary of State Charlie Summers will be speaking at the 64th Annual American Legion Dirigo Boys State Program at the Thomas College in Waterville on Tuesday, June 21, 2011.

Secretary Summers has been asked to speak about his career path and what lead him to public service.  He will also discuss his role as Secretary of State and the importance of civic duty.

The Dirigo Boys State program gives Maine high school boys in their junior year the opportunity to learn how our state government works.  The 4-day program allows the young men to campaign for local, county and state offices and then organize and act-out typical government functions.  A similar program is also offered to young women through Dirigo Girls State.
