Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap Congratulates Bureau of Motor Vehicles Employee on
Selection as Maine’s Best Driving Examiner “providing top notch service to Maine”

Augusta- Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap today joined with Deputy Secretary of State Catherine Curtis, head of the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV), to recognize Maine’s top driving examiner, Dan Andersen. Andersen, based in the BMV’s Portland office, is being awarded for his excellence by the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA). “It is with great pleasure and no small measure of pride we offer our congratulations to Dan Andersen,” Dunlap said, explaining “I have long said the Bureau of Motor Vehicles employs truly dedicated staff who strives to help people, and Dan proves that to our customers each and every day.”

“Dan was nominated for this award by his supervisors, who recognize his dedication to perfection,” Curtis said, adding, “his immediate supervisor says ‘pass or fail, the applicant knows they were treated in a fair and professional manner. His fellow examiners look forward to working with him because they know Dan will always do his share and more.’ Secretary Dunlap and I both know Dan personifies the sort of attention to detail and quality of service all BMV employees strive for, and it’s why we are so pleased to highlight those exemplary efforts which are consistently being made by all of our staff.”

Andersen has been a driving examiner for 3 years, conducting road tests for both passenger vehicles and motorcycles. For 2007, he administered 1,518 road exams at testing locations from Augusta to Kennebunk. He was single-handedly responsible for conducting nearly 5 percent of all road tests administered in Maine last year. Andersen’s test subjects enjoyed a 60 percent passing rate. According to Maine’s Chief Driver License Examiner Larry Boivin, “I consider Dan to be a barometer for license success rates statewide. His numbers are a solid indicator both he, and all of Maine’s driving examiners, are doing top quality work.”

Andersen will be recognized during the AAMVA National Conference to be held this summer.
