House District 83 Election Results

Quick Turnaround on Poll Results Allows Swearing in of New Representative Today

Augusta - Ballot certification in the race for State Representative in House District 83 was concluded Wednesday morning, just hours after polls closed in the 5 municipalities making up District 83. “Our staff has received final results from the these towns, and with certification complete, the residents of District 83 will now have the representation they chose at the polls on Tuesday. We are grateful to the voters in those towns for getting involved in the process, and to their municipal officials for conducting this election without a hitch on such short notice.”

Democrat Deane Jones of Mount Vernon defeated Republican Penny Morrell of Belgrade. In the official tally Jones received 1,469 votes, Morrell received 1,180 votes.

Representative-elect Jones will be sworn into office by Governor Baldacci in a ceremony later today.
