Secretary's Statement on Supreme Court Ruling

I would like to thank the Justices of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court for their expedited attention to the matter of McGee v. Dunlap. Maine law benefits from thoughtful judicial review, and this case is no exception.

Regardless of one’s view of the TABOR initiative, the process for each citizen to fully participate in our democracy is more evenly balanced, thanks to the work of the Court.

This decision will guide the administration of Maine’s election law. With the Constitutional provisions of the citizen’s initiative process now more clearly defined and the rule of law upheld, we will turn our full attention to the business of preparing for this election cycle.
