Secretary of State Outlines Customer Service Strategy
for Bureau of Motor Vehicles in Oxford County

AUGUSTA, MAINE -- Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap announced on Thursday that a thorough review of customer service policies and practices within the Bureau of Motor Vehicles has resulted in changes that will be implemented this fall and during 2007. These changes, which include greater access to online services, are designed to enhance customer satisfaction and to deliver services in the most cost-effective manner.

As part of the Secretary of State’s customer service study, all thirteen Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) branch offices (http://www.maine.gov/sos/bmv/locations/index.html) were evaluated. Consideration was given to staffing levels, the number of customers served, current wait times and other factors. None of the offices are planned for closure. The Mexico BMV branch office will continue to meet the needs of Oxford County residents.

Although the Department of the Secretary of State offers more online services than any other state agency, efforts are underway to strengthen the promotion of these services, to establish self-serve computer kiosks in certain town offices and BMV branch locations, and to continue seeking ways to expand the number of services offered. Today, many residents can renew their driver’s license or vehicle registration, and take advantage of many other BMV services, by visiting www.maine.gov/sos.

“Our goal is to enhance customer satisfaction by expanding access to services through the most cost-effective methods. The people of Oxford County can count on the Mexico branch office, but they will also have greater access to online services than ever before,” Secretary of State Dunlap commented.
