Maine State Archives Highlights Upcoming
AUGUSTA, MAINE -- Maine State Archivist Jim Henderson reminded municipal and county officials, as well as representatives of museums and other non-profit organizations, that the deadline to apply for funding through the Historical Collections Grant Program is June 1st .
Community and county governments, as well as historical societies, museums and other non-profit organizations are eligible to apply. Although the primary focus of this round of grants is the preservation of town and county records, all eligible organizations are welcome to apply.
The Historical Collections Grant Program provides matching funds to local governmental agencies and non-profit organizations to help preserve Maine 's significant original historical records and makes them available to the public. It funds archival storage materials and microfilming, supports efforts to put records in archival order, and provides resources needed to obtain necessary consultant services.
Grant awards typically range from $500 to $2000. More information and application forms are available through the Maine State Archives by calling 287-5791 or online at www.state.me.us/sos/arc/mhrab/grant.htm .
Funding support for the program comes from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC). Applications for the next round of grants are due by October 1, 2004 .
