Fidelity Chapter, NO. 32, Order of the Eastern Star to be Honored for 100 Years of Incorporation

Secretary of State Dan A. Gwadosky will honor the Fidelity Chapter, N O. 32, Order of the Eastern Star for 100 years of incorporation on Monday, June 10, 2002 at 6:00 p.m. at the Masonic Hall in Houlton. Fidelity Chapter, N O. 32, Order of the Eastern Star was incorporated in the State of Maine on April 12, 1902.

Fourteen corporations are celebrating their centennial anniversary this year. They include eight business corporations--Charles S. Chase Company; Perkins Machine Company; Almon H. Fogg Company; Nevada Nickel and Copper Company; Bar Harbor Savings and Loan Association; Brunswick Publishing Company; Cabco, Inc.; and Hannaford Bros. Co.;--and six non-profit corporations--Halcyon Grange No. 345 Patrons of Husbandry; Bauneg Beg Grange, P. of H. No. 382; Fidelity Chapter, NO. 32, Order of the Eastern Star; Grand Lake Grange No. 375, Patrons of Husbandry; The Trustees of the Charity Fund of Arion Lodge, No. 162, Free and Accepted Masons; and Good Samaritan Agency.

"This is an excellent opportunity to recognize Maine businesses and nonprofit organizations for their longevity," said Secretary Gwadosky. "It takes the efforts of many individuals to keep an organization or corporation active for 100 years. Given that my Department has over 50,000 active corporations on file, this a significant achievement."

The Fidelity Chapter of the Eastern Star was organized in 1895 and chartered on September 19, 1896, becoming the first Eastern Star Chapter in Aroostook County. Annie Newell of Houlton was instrumental in establishing the Chapter. With the assistance of the Fidelity Chapter, an additional six Chapters were established in Northern Maine. The Fidelity Chapter members have met in the Masonic Temple on Market Square in Houlton since 1895. Over the years, a number of members have held the highest office on the State level, including Cora M. Putnam, Worthy Grand Matron in 1909; James Archibald, Worthy Grand Patron in 1915; Hartley M. Stewart, Worthy Grand Patron in 1937; Mildred B. McIntosh, Worthy Grand Matron in 1961 and Donald O. Nelder, Worthy Grand Patron in 1971. The Fidelity Chapter is involved in a number of Grand Chapter Charities, as well as other organizations.
