Secretary of State Continues to Expand Virtual Office
with Annual Reports Online
Convenient alternative allows corporations to file reports over the Internet

AUGUSTA--Secretary of State Dan A. Gwadosky unveiled Annual Reports Online, the most recent addition to his department's Interactive Corporate Services. Annual Reports Online allows businesses and nonprofit corporations to file their annual reports over the Internet. No longer is it necessary to complete and mail in a paper form. A simple step by step process is completed online and the report is automatically filed with the Secretary of State.

"This new online service will be a tremendous benefit for our corporate customers who must, by law, file a report annually to remain in good standing in the State of Maine," stated Secretary Gwadosky. "We are making every effort to expand our online services to increase customer convenience and staff efficiencies," Secretary Gwadosky continued. "While Internet services may never replace conventional methods of service, there is a growing number of individuals and businesses that are demanding that government keep pace with the private sector in providing online services as an alternative."

Nearly 50,000 business and nonprofit corporations are on file with the Department of the Secretary of State, and each of those entities must file an annual report that discloses information regarding the corporation's officers and directors.

Annual Reports Online was developed with the assistance of InforME, the Information Resource of Maine, and joins the many other services offered through Interactive Corporate Services.

Interactive Corporate Services allows a user to search the documents on file with the State of Maine for all business and non-profit corporations, trademarks, limited partnerships, as well as limited liability partnerships and corporations. Basic information regarding each of these entities is available at no cost. This information includes legal name, entity type, status, date of incorporation or filing, assumed and former names, and clerk/registered agent. This information may be accessed and printed at no cost from the user's computer.

For additional information, such as plain or certified copies of filings (annual reports, articles of incorporation, amendments, etc.) and certificates of good standing and legal existence, the usual statutory fees apply and a subscription to InforME is required to process the request online and bill the user's account for the services.
