The debtor name index search is designed to allow searchers to find variations of debtor names on UCC records in the Secretary of State's office for searching, not to locate name variations for use for a filing.
This "unofficial" search allows searchers to use a wildcard character (%) to retrieve a list of debtor name variations, regardless of the status of the lien, from the debtor names that have been indexed in the UCC database from UCC records presented for filing. For example, a debtor name variation may appear, although the lien may have expired or was terminated prior to July 1, 2001. When a searcher conducts an official search of a debtor name variation, the search may or may not retrieve any UCC records filed against that debtor.
Remember, this is an unofficial debtor name search and if you use this index to obtain a debtor name for filing, you run the risk of obtaining a debtor name that has been incorrectly entered into the debtor name index or a debtor name that was incorrect at the time of filing as provided by the filer.
