Registering a Semitrailer

Online Trailer Registration Renewal

How to Register a Dealer Purchased Semitrailer:

  1. Documents Needed:
    1. Your bill of sale
    2. Blue title application (if over 3,000 lbs. net weight and a 1995 model year or newer)
  2. If your municipality does not participate in our registration program, you will need to visit a BMV branch office with the documents listed above. Please contact your local municipal office to find out if they participate in our registration program.
  3. Pay the appropriate registration fee. Trailers may be registered for one or two years. Multiply the fee by 2 for a two year registration.
  4. Vanity plates are available for semitrailers for an additional annual fee of $25.00. Multiply the vanity fee by 2 for a two year registration. Vanity plates are not available for long term trailers. You may check the availability of a vanity plate online.

How to Register a Private Sale Purchased Semitrailer:

  1. Documents Needed:
    1. Signed bill of sale
    2. Title signed over to the new owner (if semitrailer a model year 1995 or newer and is over 3,000 lbs. net weight)
  2. If your municipality does not participate in our registration program, you will need to visit a BMV branch office with the documents listed above. Please contact your local municipal office to find out if they participate in our registration program.
  3. Pay sales tax (5% of the purchase price).
  4. Pay the appropriate registration fee. Trailers may be registered for one or two years. Multiply the fee by 2 for a two year registration.
  5. Vanity plates are available for semitrailers for an additional annual fee of $25.00. Multiply the vanity fee by 2 for a two year registration. Vanity plates are not available for long term trailers. You may check the availability of a vanity plate online.
