Breast Cancer Plate
Effective October 1, 2008, Maine will be issuing the new Breast Cancer Support Services specialty license plate.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: How much does the Breast Cancer Support Services Specialty plate cost?
A: The fee is $20.00 in addition to the regular registration fee when first purchasing the plates. Each renewal is an additional $15.00. There will be no reservation period and no low digit plates will be available for issuance. The plates will be issued in a unique numbering sequence, beginning with 101-ALA through 999-ALZ.
Vanity plates are available in the Breast Cancer Support Services specialty plate series with a maximum of six characters, plus one space or dash in the sequence. The fee is an additional $25.00 above the registration fee. Breast Cancer vanity plates cannot duplicate a vanity plate this already issued in another class of plate. You may search and order a vanity plate online.
Q: Where does the money go?
A. The proceeds from the Breast Cancer Support Services specialty plate raises money to be deposited into the Breast Cancer Services Special Program Fund, established by the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention. The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention will then equally distribute the funds to a breast and cervical health program within the center. This health program will provide services to underserved people with breast health and breast cancer needs and provide funding for cancer research, education, and patient support programs.
Q: Where can the Breast Cancer Support Services plates be purchased?
A: At all Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicle Branch Offices and at many town offices. If the plates are not available in your town, they can be purchased at the nearest branch office or by mailing a copy of your registration and a check for $20 ($45 for vanity) made payable to the Secretary of State to: Bureau of Motor Vehicles, Specialty Plate Clerk, 29 State House Station, Augusta, Maine 04333.
