For your information is the Technical Specifications Guide (pdf file) for use in the electronic notification program. The information contained in this document will help insurance companies prepare and implement their systems to interface with the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (July 19, 2004).
In conjunction with the Technical Specifications Guide is a cover letter (Word document) which outlines important information and updates the status of the electronic insurance cancellation program (July 19, 2004).
Insurance companies insuring fewer than 500 vehicles in the State of Maine may use an online form. This service is not available for insurance companies insuring more than 500 vehicles. Please review the frequently asked questions or the current technical specifications guide for more information on eligibility requirements.
As a means of expediting the process of insurance cancellations, reducing errors and maximizing efficiencies, please note that the BMV will not accept faxes from insurance companies insuring fewer than 500 vehicles in Maine as notification of cancellation of insurance. These companies will be required to use the online cancellation form for notification of insurance cancellations.
