Female Nurses Act Transcript
State of Maine
In the year of our lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-one.
To authorize the governor to accept the services of females as nurses in the army.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in Legislature assembled, as follows:
Section 1. The governor is hereby authorized and empowered to accept the services of females to act under the direction of the army surgeons as nurses for our sick and wounded soldiers mustered into the service of the United States from this State, and to make such provision for their comfort and support while so employed, as in his judgment shall be just and expedient.
Section 2. This act shall take effect on its approval by the governor.
