Dear Sir -

The Commission from the Governor forwarded by you was received here some ten days since. Please express my thanks to the Governor for his kindness. I shall however be under the necessity of declining the appointment as I have just obligated myself to labor here for the year to come. This with other considerations has rendered such a course imperative. I shall endeavor to support the government, however by all the means in my power.
