RECORDS RETENTION SCHEDULES
FOR MAINE STATE GOVERNMENT

Retention schedules for the following departments may be viewed by clicking on the links:

Note: Media codes show the record series format at the time its retention schedule was last updated. Retention periods are applied to information, though, regardless of media. When an agency changes its records management practices to storing records in digital rather than paper formats, for example, the retention periods for those records do not change. Digital records must be retained exactly as long as paper records containing the same information.
Codes we use to represent some common physical record formats are:
P = paper
SP = still photograph
RF = roll microfilm
MF = microfiche
HD = hard disk
OD = optical disk
AT = audiotape
MP = motion picture
MT = magnetic tape
CD = compact disk
